UNT Health Science Center and Quest Diagnostics are collaborating to improve outcomes for high risk patients in underserved populations. Quest, which is the leading diagnostic information services company, will use its massive trove of data from its diagnostic business to provide guidance on how to manage populations effectively.

UNTHSC and Quest will develop strategies, interventions, and pilot programs that can be scaled to benefit populations with chronic and costly conditions, such as diabetes and kidney disease.

“Health care is the one of the last industries that has yet to be truly disrupted by technology,” said Dr. Michael R. Williams, UNTHSC President via release. “However, new technologies have the potential to completely change the way we prevent, diagnose and treat diseases. By combining the strengths and expertise of the Health Science Center and Quest Diagnostics, we will explore new strategies and technologies to transform health care and help people lead healthier, fuller lives.”

Jay G. Wohlgemuth, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, Research & Development and Medical, Quest Diagnostics, said via release, “Population health data can help us identify health trends and illuminate disease risk in early treatable stages. But population health is about more than detecting people at risk. Our collaboration with UNTHSC will seek not only to identify at-risk individuals based on diagnostic insights but also to engage them with care interventions that will ultimately reduce those risks.”
