Patient satisfaction has become a business in healthcare and as new facilities emerge with patient rooms that look like they belong in a hotel, old hospitals are having to pivot. Medical City Dallas, which opened in 1974, has begun renovating more than two dozen rooms.

Six opened last week. All 28 rooms will be finished by September. Inpatients can look forward to bedside and over-bed tables, new mattresses, iPad arms next to the beds, wood laminate floors, more cabinets and storage space, pullout sleeper sofas for families, and new bathrooms.
