Bluffview is quickly becoming the place where everyone wants to be. Baby Boomers shedding 8,000-square-foot McMansions, professional couples “moving up,” everyone wants a snippet of dirt in this part of town with so many trees and hills that I’ve heard it called “Austin in Dallas.”

Listed at just under $1.9 million, this home at 5323 Rock Cliff Place is a perfect example of what’s bringing people to the neighborhood. The home is a mid-century modern jewel by architect Harwood K. Smith on 1.06 acres, and it’s across Inwood Road from most of Bluffview.  Built in 1952, this two-bedroom ranch house was owned by one of Dallas’ wealthiest entrepreneurs and has been remodeled to the nines (or better) by Michael Capuano and Marco French, formerly of Wilson & Associates.

The front door opens to an entry with an abundance of natural light and pure views through the living room windows overlooking the pool and a dream forest-like setting beyond.

To the right of the entry is a living area with a raised ceiling, specialty lighting, a fireplace, and tiger-eye wood built-ins; it opens to a private courtyard. The kitchen overlooks the pool and has a sloped ceiling, skylight, sleek wood cabinetry, granite countertops, and a Dacor gas range, oven and built-in microwave. More glass doors open to the pool area.

As if that is not enough, a caterer’s kitchen with a convection oven, Sub-Zero, and refrigerated wine storage is behind this main kitchen. There’s a breakfast room with a sloped ceiling, wet bar and more glass overlooking the pool and grounds. Suffice it to say the designer and architect took full advantage of viewing one of the home’s most stunning features from every room: the yard.

The master suite sports a fireplace surrounded by mirrored walls, built-in bookshelves and media space, more — can you guess? — large windows overlooking the grounds. Also there’s a private exterior pool entrance. The master bathroom offers granite countertops, stainless-steel sinks, a soaking jet tub, a separate shower for two with a “leg shaving” bench, and more mirrored walls. The home is a glazier’s dream, although maybe they’ve gone a bit overboard on the mirrors. An adjacent room could be an exercise studio or study with yet another wall of glass.

This home is the perfect fit for a downsizing Boomer forseveral reasons. There are two living areas, just enough guest space for the children to stay overnight but not forever, and a raised brick pool. The four-car garage provides untaxed storage space and room for vintage autos. And who but a retiring Boomer will be able to afford all the Windex to keep thosewalls of glass clean?

It’s also a perfect home for a bachelor who doesn’t need much more than a large bedroom, great shower and garage. In fact, former owner Kelcy Warren traded this home to the owners of Bootjack Ranch when he bought that $45 million Colorado spread last month. (This was one of Warren’s homes before he moved to 5323 Park Lane. Coincidentally, the address numbers are identical.)  Now owned by a California couple, 5323 Rock Cliff has it all: location, pedigree, and paradise.
