What To Do in Dallas This Weekend

Your therapist recommends getting out of your comfort zone. We concur. Try it with this weekend's events, like Eddie Izzard, Paws Cause, and a vodka tasting.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 21

Comedy // Eddie Izzard
Eddie Izzard once said, “Never put a sock in a toaster.” Good advice,
if we’ve ever heard some. The Emmy winner and British comic turns
history and everyday situations into hilarious stream-of-consciousness
monologues. You may recognize him from Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s
Thirteen
or as Wayne Malloy on The Riches. 8 pm. American Airlines Center, 2500 Victory Ave. 214-222-3687.

Happenings // Robert Duvall at the NasherSalon

Robert Duvall is awesome. He was in The Godfather, Apocalypse Now,
and To Kill a Mockingbird, and he’s won an Academy Award, two Emmys, and
Four Golden Globes. Ask him to say, “I love the smell of napalm in the morning”—or anything else your heart desires—when he speaks at the
NashSALON Speaker Series. Gary Cogill presents, and there is a Q&A at the end. $65;
$50 for members. 8 pm. Nasher Sculpture Center, 2001 Flora St. 214-242-5100.

Nightlife // Glass Cactus
Get your ’80s dance on with The Spazmatics at Glass Cactus this weekend. The cover band plays all of our favorite old-school hits, such as “Jessie’s Girl” and “Come on Eileen.” With a 2,000-square-foot dance floor, you’ll have plenty of room to do the Running Man. 10 pm.

Nightlife // Acoustic Music Thursdays at Knox Street Pub
Every Thursday night, starting this week, catch live tunes at Knox Street. Tonight, the lineup includes Christian Ross, Colby Domino, Pete Bixby, and $5 Texas-size drafts and $4 wells. 9 pm.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 22

Nightlife // Fergie Shoe Giveaway at Aura
Ladies, have you seen Fergie’s new shoe line? It’s totally, well, Fergalicious. (Sorry. We had to.) Be at Aura Lounge Friday night for your chance to get some for free. We recommend arriving early, because they’re only giving away 30 pairs. 9 pm.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 23

Music // Kraig Parker With the Forth Worth Symphony Orchestra
We never got to see Elvis perform live, but Kraig Parker’s Elvis
impersonation is the next best thing. The internationally known Elvis
impersonator makes his debut at the Bass Performance Hall backed by the
Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Thank goodness—we now have an excuse to
wear those blue suede shoes. 8 pm. Bass Performance Hall, 525 Commerce St. 817-212-4200.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 24

Galas and Benefits // Paws Cause
Because we recently adopted a pet, we are all about helping out other
pooches. The Paws Cause at Sambuca is a great way to do so if you’re not in the
market to take home a dog or cat. This fun event benefits the SPCA of
Texas and features a Bone Appetit raffle, a designer dog bed silent
auction, drinks, food, and much more. 6-9 pm.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 26

Theater and Dance // The 39 Steps
This Alfred Hitchcock comedy already has us interested; apparently, four cast members play more than 100 characters. We’re going just to see how they change costumes so quickly. The story revolves around a man who goes out for a night at the theater and ends up meeting a woman who claims to be a spy. When she dies at his house, he has to flee London—and drama ensues. 8 pm. Music Hall at Fair Park.

Nightlife // Toast to Tuesdays at Vino 100
All day every Tuesday, patrons get 20% off of all Captain’s Wall Wines and Champagne at Vino 100. Also, starting at  5pm, you can drop your biz card in the hat for a chance to wine a free bottle of wine. The drawing is at 7:30, so be sure to hang around. 5 pm.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 27

Nightlife // 360 Mixologist at State & Allen Lounge
360 Vodka is sending a mixologist to State & Allen Lounge to introduce new flavors Cola and Double Chocolate. Learn how to make yummy 360 Vodka cocktails and, best of all, sip for free. Well, your first drink is free. But after that, they’re only $5. 7:30-9:30 pm.
