After 25 years of being based in Dallas, decorative accessories darling Arteriors opened a Dallas showroom for January’s lighting market at the Dallas Market Center. We chatted with the company’s founder and creative director Mark Moussa about expansion, his favorite lamp, and his plans for a permanent Arteriors showroom in Dallas.
D Home: What took you so long to open a showroom in Dallas?
Mark Moussa: Our product line has long had a presence in other showrooms in Dallas, but, given the strength of our lighting, we thought it made the most sense to debut our own space at the International Lighting Market. We’re excited about finally being in our own space here at home and are planning to open a permanent Arteriors showroom in the Dallas Design District later this year.
DH: Arteriors is known for its designer collaborations. How do you pick creative partners?
MM: We look for partners with an established brand and design sensibility that can bring a look that we don’t currently have. Barry Dixon brought in some incredible traditional pieces and mixed materials that our customers have been very receptive to.
DH: What’s your favorite Arteriors lamp?
MM: I have a special place in my heart for the first lamp that came off our assembly line, which was based on a small candlestick that my father bought for me in an antiques shop in France. But my favorite design is the Goldberg lamp. It’s made of a reclaimed piece of wood that is stripped of its bark and plated silver.
DH: What inspires your design process?
MM: So many different things feed me creatively. Whether I’m looking at a finish, a silhouette, or a table leg, I’m inspired. My eye never really rests. I can get inspiration driving down Irving Boulevard.
