Real Weddings: Apryl Marshall and Jonathan Dailey

The simple charm of a Dallas Arboretum ceremony.

On their first date, Apryl Marshall and Jonathan Dailey attended the premiere of a new National Geographic show. Looking back, the name of the program, Life, could be seen as foreshadowing for the couple, for with that trip to the Angelika their lives would change forever.

Friends had introduced the two a month or two earlier, and after Apryl asked Jon out for that fateful night, “we became pretty much inseparable and haven’t looked back since,” she says.

The connection was instant, the courtship fast. Apryl says she knew within a few months that she wanted to marry Jon. And not long after that, he proposed. On the weekend of July Fourth, at The Belmont Hotel, with fireworks pop, pop, popping in the distance, Jon got down on one knee and did some popping of his own.

Apryl’s vision for her wedding day was something simple, sweet, and modern with vintage touches.

As a wedding photographer with an in to the industry (she is proprietor of Apryl Ann Photography, which is part of event planning co-op The Bell Jar), Apryl knew that from flowers to lighting, she would work with her favorite vendors and friends.

Southern Fried Paper created the stationery, and save-the-dates and invitations carried a vintage floral motif borrowed from stamps Apryl had. For the ceremony and reception, the bride chose the Dallas Arboretum for its timeless beauty. To create just the right atmosphere, Apryl enlisted the pros at Bows and Arrows. Colorful, fun, and romantic were her requests.

Bows and Arrows’ Alicia Rico created the fresh-picked, bohemian vibe Apryl wanted by using mismatched elements that leant a textured, plucked-from-home look. Down the center of two long tables, cactuses sat in gold pots, and lush, whimsical flowers spilled from black urns and burlap-covered boxes. Green or cobalt glass vases and brown glass medicine bottles from Alicia’s personal collection held single vibrant blooms. Gold Chiavari chairs flanked the tables, which were covered in white cloth and set with white dishes.

On March 3, 2012, dressed in an Angel Sanchez gown customized to look like an heirloom, Apryl walked down an aisle of crepe myrtles strewn with white lights to meet her groom. “We are truly lucky to have found our soul mates,” she said before the wedding.
Which is as it should be in love and life.
